Football Tryouts 8/10 – 8/11

WGMS Football tryouts will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 10 and 11, from 2:30-5:30 PM.  Athletes MUST have a current VHSL physical (dated after May 1, 2015) in order to participate in tryouts.

Girls’ Basketball Tryouts August 10-12

Girls’ Basketball tryouts will be held Monday through Wednesday, August 10-12, from 10:00 AM to Noon.  Students MUST have a current Virginia High School League physical (dated after May 1, 2015) in order to try out.

Orientation Information

Orientation will be held in two sessions on Wednesday, September 2:  4-5:00 PM for 6th grade only, and 5-7:00 PM Open Orientation for students in grades 6-8 (presented in an “open house” format, so students and parents may drop in at any time and may visit the various stations and classrooms at their leisure).  Students and their families will be welcome to explore, to review materials, to meet teachers and students, and to learn more about the many opportunities that await them inside and outside the classroom.


4:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m. Sixth Grade Orientation  (6th grade students and parents only)

During the Sixth Grade Orientation session, students and families will be introduced to the administrative staff, 6th grade teachers, and support staff. At this session families will be presented the following:

¨ introduction to lockers and schedules

¨ school activities

¨ academic support

¨ first week of school procedures

¨ communication between school and home

¨ summer reading program

¨ guidance support


5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Open Orientation for students in grades 6-8





Mobile Café Summer Food Service

The Mobile Café which provides free lunch for children during the summer, with stops at Heritage Park (12-12:30), Hazel Hill (1-1:30), and the Headquarters Library (2-2:30).  The food truck operates from June 22 – August 21.


Midnight Madness Summer Series

Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation will host Midnight Madness at WGMS on Fridays from 8:00pm to midnight June 19 through August 28.  Each evening will include an educational workshop in addition to playing basketball in a structured setting.  July 17 will be Splash Time at Dixon Park Pool.  The Summer Series is free and is open to city residents between the ages of 11 and 17.  Fredericksburg City Schools will provide bus transportation to and from Walker-Grant.  Pre-registration is required and will begin on May 14.
