Special Programs

Welcome to Fredericksburg City Public Schools Special Programs web site! This page contains information to the various special programs available to Students enrolled in Fredericksburg City Public Schools.

Title I

Title I is designed to help ALL students served by the program to achieve proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards. This can be accomplished by:

  • providing students an enriched and accelerated educational program;
  • ensuring that high-quality academic assessments, curriculum, teacher training, and instructional materials are aligned with State academic standards;
  • closing the achievement gap between high- and low-performing students;
  • affording parents opportunities to participate in the education of their children; and
  • coordinating services with other educational services and agencies.
NCLB –  No Child left Behind Act of 2001

The No Child left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires schools to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals each year in reading/language arts and mathematics. Title I schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years in the same subject area are identified as being in School Improvement and therefore must offer Public School Choice (PSC) or Supplemental Educational Services (SES), if the school is in Year 1 of School Improvement. Public School Choice (PSC) is not an option in our division or nearby divisions; therefore, Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are offered.

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are programs designed to help eligible students increase their academic achievement and meet State standards through individual tutoring. Supplemental Educational Services providers must be selected from the state-approved list. Individual tutoring must take place outside of regular school hours. The Title I Program pays the cost of SES to the SES providers. The list of approved state providers to serve our division is below.
