I hope you all had an enjoyable spring break.

Our Reading SOL is on Tuesday, May 16th. We are busy reviewing. I will not be giving any reading homework until after the SOL. All review will be completed in class.

Word Study Homework:

Monday: Write each sort in ABC order

Tuesday – Use 12 words in a good question.

Wednesday – Use 10 words in a good dialog sentence. That means that it needs quotation marks.

Thursday – Practice test. It must be signed.

 

The test will be on Friday

Word Study Homework:

Monday – Write words in ABC Order, in the correct sorts

Tuesday – Write 12 good sentences using 12 of your words

Wednesday – Practice Test  This test must be signed by an adult.  Any words they miss should be written 3 times each.

We are starting to review for the SOLs starting this week. Please make sure your child is reading at least 30 minutes a night. They should also be writing every day.

In reading this week we will be going over the Point of View Test and beginning to review for the Cumulative test that will take place on March 15th and 16th. We will be reviewing for the test this week and the beginning of next week.

The homework packet tonight which will be due on Thursday will cover comprehension, summarizing and cause and effect. Please make sure they read the passage to you a few times before completing the activities.

They will be having a CUM. test on March 16/17. It will cover everything we have learned so fat this year.

Tuesday – Put each sort in Alphabetical order

Wednesday – Use 12 of your words in good descriptive sentences.

Thursday – Practice Test  This must be signed by a parent. Any words they miss on the practice test should be written 3 times each.

The test will be on Friday, March 10.

In writing, we are working on writing good sentences which lead to good paragraphs.

They will be completing a PBA on March 13. They will need to study their SS notes. They know which ones to study.

In Reading this week, we will continue our work on Author’s Point of View. Please have conversations about this and let them discuss their point of view on a variety of topics.

We will be reviewing point of view and author’s choice of vocabulary on Thursday to prepare them for the test on Friday, March 3rd.

Monday’s Reading homework will be a Point of View paper.

In writing, we are working on sentence structure and writing good paragraphs.

Word Study –

Monday- 10 good sentences.  Sentences must have at least 10 words.

Tuesday – Rewrite sort. Please discuss this sort with your child.

Wednesday – Write a paragraph using at least 5 of your words.

Thursday – Practice Test – This must be signed.  Any words they miss, they should write 3 times each.

Friday – Word Study Test.

Sorry I am a day late, but here is our agenda for the week.

Reading- In Reading, we will be working on SOL 5.5e Authors choice of language.  We will be reading a variety of passages and using our senses to help determine authors style and language.

In Writing, we are working on hyphens and double negatives.

Word Study work will be done in class this week. The test will be on Friday.

Word Study homework on Thursday will be to take a practice test and get it signed. Any word they miss they should write three times.

We have an early release on Friday and no school on Monday, February 20th.

Happy Monday,

Hope you had a wonderful weekend. In Reading this week  we will still be focusing on figurative language. On Monday, we will be learning about idioms and on Tuesday, hyperboles.  We will be reviewing all of them from last week and this week on Wednesday and Thursday and will be testing on Friday.

Their Reading Packet Homework  skill focus will be idioms.

In writing, we are writing a story and will start working on hyphens and double negatives.

Today in words study, they will learn their new sort and work with their words all week.  The only homework they will have this week for Word Study will be on Monday to rewrite their sort and come up with a few other words that meet that sort. They will also have to complete their Practice pretest on Thursday night that must be signed.

Walker-Grant counselors and administration will be her on Thursday, February 9 to talk to parents about next year.

Conferences are Thursday, February 9 from 6-7:30. Please call the counseling office to schedule a conference.

Happy Tuesday,

For the next two weeks in Reading, we will be working on figurative language. SOL 5.4d

Tuesday and Wednesday we will be focusing on similes and metaphors.

Thursday and Friday we will be focusing on personification.

Next Monday and Tuesday will be Idioms and hyperboles.

We will be reviewing all of them on Wednesday and Thursday and the test will be on Friday, February 10th

The weekly Reading homework skill will be on Figurative Language. They will still do a comprehension skill and summarizing for practice that is in the packet every week.

Please make sure your child is reading at least 30 minutes a night.

In writing, we will be working on a variety of grammar skills. Please make sure your child is writing in a journal of even have them write a letter to someone that lives out of state.

There will be NO Word Study this week!!

Monday: Write a story: Have a character,problem and solution.  Make sure you have events leading to your problem and events leading to your solution.

Tuesday: Write words (ALL) in Alphabetical order

Wednesday: Draw a picture and write a sentence that goes with each picture:  (10 Words)

Thursday: Practice Test – This must be signed to receive full credit.

Friday – Test- at school

In Writing we are working on our research paper on an Historically Black College or University. Please talk to your child about what school they picked.  They can be doing some research at home, but paper must be written in school.

The end of the marking period is Friday, Jan. 27. There will be no school for students on Monday, Jan.30.

A Reading test will be given tomorrow on Context Clues to identify meaning of unfamiliar words, Roots ad affixes, Drawing conclusions and Inferences.  They reviewed today and have a review packet to look at.

 

In Reading we are starting Plot of a story.  This will start on Wednesday

Welcome Back!!

I hope you had a very nice break and got to spend time with friends and family.

Reading:

This week in Reading I will be introducing Drawing Conclusions and inference to the students.  They will learn how to pick out clues in a story to inference and draw a conclusion.

They will have a reading packet this week that reviews summarizing and context clues.

Please have your child read 30 minutes a night.

 

Language Arts:

They will receive new words and will sort them in class.

Homework for the week for Lang. Arts:

Monday -ABC order in their sort

Tuesday: 10 good descriptive sentences. They should have adjectives and adverbs in them.

Wednesday: Draw a picture and write a caption for 10 of your words. Add details to your pictures.

Thursday: Practice test- It must be signed. Have them  write the words that got wrong two times each.
