Gifted – General Intellectual Component
Students identified for the General Intellectual component of the Gifted Program will begin with a brain exploration unit. In understanding the workings of the brain, each student will be able to recognize the unlimited potential he or she possesses. Brains do not come with an instruction manual, yet there is no end to what the brain can do!
Thinking is a personal, private process. No two people think exactly alike—even when they’re in the same place doing the same thing.
Thinking is a skill. It can be wasted—or it can be improved. To be better thinkers at Lafayette Upper Elementary School, students should concentrate on positive thinking.
Positive thinking means making your brain work for you rather than against you. It involves seeing things positively and using positive words to express your thoughts and feelings. Positive thinking focuses on success. Students can program themselves to succeed, to be alert. Students learn to be strong independent learners by assuming the responsibility to make good decisions.
