Hi! My name is Michael George and I am an Instructional Technologist for Fredericksburg City Public Schools in Virginia.
I am a former Social Studies teacher and have been fascinated with technology since I was in college. With the advent of Web 2.0 applications and open source software, it has made it much easier to engage and educate students using web applications and open source software such as Audacity.
The main function of my job is as a technology integrator is to assist teachers in the use for technology. By having the proper tools, support and an easy method, teachers are more likely to incorporate emerging technologies into their curriculum. My goal behind setting up this server was to give teachers an easy way to create interactive web pages that they will use and students, parents, and community members will visit.
This WordPress server was born on Aug. 1, 2008. We created this server with a mostly open source programs such as Apache, MySQL, PHP, and WordPress. Our plan is to transition teachers to this site making this the primary web communication tool for teachers and administrators. WordPress will allow teachers to Podcast, Videocast, schedule events to post on their page, and many other useful features.
