   Dear Ms. Robinson,
   My son, Brandon Bauista, was hoping to be invited into the National Honor Society this year. We weren’t sure if the school was aware of Brandon’s extra-curricula/community service efforts.
   He was just approved by Nike for the,”Reuse a Shoe Recycling Project”. This will begin as an athletic shoe drive at JMHS Sept 7 – Dec 7. He’s also a member of Key Club, Tennis team 2 years and Young Life. He also has done FredCamp for 2 years. Please elt us know if these are sufficient. Thank You,

   Dear Mrs. Bautista,

   I am terribly sorry that I only today found your message. Rather than coming in as a regaular email, which I would have seen, it posted to my blog which I do not have cause to access over the summer. I, too, had very much hoped the NHS would be able to tap Brandon for consideration this year, as I have always been very fond of him. Regretably, Brandon’s cumulative GPA did not fall above the unrounded 3.5 cut-off for consideration. This is the minimum academic requirement set forth in our By-Laws as the basis on which students are tapped. I am very sorry, and I do wish Brandon every continued success.
