We are beginning our study of the regions of the world, beginning with North America.
Chapter 4 Homework will be due Friday, homework quiz on Friday.
Lots of map work this week (Virginia, US and North America)!
Students will be finishing up the units on human-environment interaction, cultural and physical regions, and climographs with a test on Wed, 10/24.
We will be exploring our “human footprint” this week as well – you may see your child taking shorter showers, recycling more, and just being more aware of the resources they use. They will be keeping a log starting Tuesday to track a week of ways to shrink their footprint.
9 Weeks testing begins Thursday, the World Geography test will be next Tuesday (10/30). A study guide will go home later this week – please help your child prepare at home.
We will be studying climate regions as well as seasons and weather.
Ch.2 Vocab Test Tuesday.
Ch.2 Part 2 Homework due Wednesday.
We will be wrapping up Ch.1 information with a test on Thursday. Your child has been working hard learning latitude and longitude coordinates – if you get lost at sea they can help!
I learned a lot about your child from their Charts and Graphs Packet they worked on this week. Wonderful work!

We had a wonderful first week in World Geography!
Getting down to business this week! Your child should keep their geography textbook at home – we will use a class set at school. Please check that they have brought it home.
We are studying the 5 Themes of Geography this week (location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region). Homework for that is due Wed.
We will also be reviewing map skills and types of maps.

Welcome to 8th Grade! I am very excited to begin this year’s study of the world! The first week will be a bit of “house-keeping” – please look for a syllabus and student information sheet to come home for parent attention and signature.
If your child does not already watch news regularly (other than Jon Stewart), read a newspaper or news magazine, please encourage them to do so. Discuss world issues over dinner, in the car – it will truly enhance their experience and success this year.
