New Graduation Requirements for the Senior Class of 2015 and 2017
For the senior class of 2015, the Virginia Department of Education has determined that Economics and Personal Finance is a required class for graduation.
For the senior class of 2017 (freshman class of 2014), the Virginia Department of Education has determined that a virtual (online) course is a required course for graduation. For students earning a Standard Diploma, a career and technical education credential must be earned. Also, the Modified Standard Diploma will not be an option for students in the senior class of 2017.
The Virginia Department of Education has removed the Advanced Technical Diploma and the Standard Technical Diploma as an option for graduation.
Virginia Tech to Host Youth Conservation Camp- July 2013
Virginia Tech is offering this camp July 14- 20, 2013. Camp highlights include fisheries management, agricultural research, canoeing, hiking at Claytor Lake State Park, the Cascades, and Mountain Lake. There will also be a tour of the Virginia Tech Campus and Lane Stadium. This camp is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. National PTA Presents The Youth Leadership Summit for Rising Sophomores & Juniors
At the 2013 Youth Leadership Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio, rising sophomores and juniors will gain valuable new leaership skills and learn specific ways to reduce bullying and improve school environments. Registration is $250 per student, and $125 for a mandatory adult chaperone who must accompany the student. Deadline to register is June 1, 2013, and the Summit is June 20-23, 2013. CIEE Leadership Academy for High School Students
As the world leader in international education and exchange for 65 years, CIEE is committed to helping schools globalize the classroom. CIEE has developed a new Leadership Academy to offer students a meaningful international experience. Starting this summer, high school students will have the chance to spend four weeks developoing their leadership skills and participating in meaningful service activities while discovering a new culture, language, and country. Virginia Tech Hosts Public Health Workshop for Juniors and Seniors- July 2013
Rising high school juniors and seniors are invited to attend Let’s Talk Public Health, July 25th-28th at Virginia Tech. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the public health field and explore exciting career opportunities through workshops, lectures, and field trips. Pre-Registration Dates Announced for Annual School Dresssing Days
School Dressing Days is an annual community event sponsored by the Interfaith Community Council that assists financially disadvantaged families with school clothing and supplies at no cost for children in kindergarten through 12th grade. The event will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1710 Bragg Road, Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10 from 9am-4pm both days. Families from Fredericksburg as well as the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline are eligible to participate. Children in Head Start will also be served if a letter verifying enrollment in the program is provided.
Parents are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to preregister for this popular event, bringing:
ID verifying residence for themselves and children (no P.O. boxes); one form of ID for each child (report card, Medicaid card, social security card or birth certificate); cloting sizes of each child; and verification of child’s enrollment, if in Head Start

Wednesday, June 26, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – The Presbyterian Church, corner Princess Anne and George Streets, Fredericksburg.
Saturday, June 29, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 8063 Ladysmith Road, Ruther Glen.
Saturday, July 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – The Presbyterian Church, corner Princess Anne and George Streets, Fredericksburg.
**It is not necessary to bring children to attend pre-registration or School Dressing Days. Families unalbe to pre-register may come to School Dressing Days on the last day, August 10 at 3pm.
