The JMHS Community:
This week is a very important time as students have settled into their Spring term classes and our first interims will be distributed today. I like to take this time to remind our community that JAYEM A.M. begins on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Please make sure that your student takes advantage of the opportunity to obtain additional enrichment and remediation.
Our Spring Sports officially begin on Monday, February 18, 2013. Please remember that students must have a physical and a 2.0 GPA in order to try out for Spring Sports.
On Thursday, February 21, 2013 we will have our Spring Term Back to School Night. We are asking for all parents to be in attendance so that they can meet their student’s teachers and hear important information regarding the 10 point Grading Scale for the 2013-2104 School Year as well as information regarding the Course Requests Process for next year.
We will begin our Course Requests Process on March 1, 2013 as students will obtain their Course of Studies Books and Course Requests Forms. Please take the time to review this information with your student that weekend and encourage your student to touch base with their teachers for teacher recommendations and information on their classes for next year. We will use the first fifteen minutes of JAYEM A.M. the week of March 4th-8th to allow students to touch base with their teachers. All signed Course Requests forms are due to guidance by March 15, 2013.
We want to make sure that our students start this term on a good note. Continue to be involved in your student’s life and please keep in constant communication with their teachers.

The JMHS School Community:
We have reached the end of the Fall Term for the 2012-2013 school year. I want to take this time to remind all students to prepare for the Final Exams and SOL Tests which will begin on January 16, 2013. Recently, we have noticed that a lot of our students have displayed some behavior that is out of character, and I feel that these poor decisions could be based on student anxiety towards their final grades.
The faculty and staff at The James Monroe High School have been preparing students with review activities and instruction for the last week or so. Teachers have also stayed after school for remediation, in the hope of providing students with additional opportunities for success. I truly hope that your student has taken advantage of this extra instructionl time and will come to school prepared for these very important assessments.
Please check our EXAM/SOL Schedule that is posted on our website under announcements and alerts. Students will take one assessment per day and we will begin to have early release days on January 18, 2013. If students are eligible for expedited retakes for their SOL tests, please make sure they stay after on our early release days for remediation and another chance at passing the test. I also want to remind everyone that today is the last day of JAYEM A.M. and that school will begin at 7:45 A.M. beginning on Monday, January 14, 2013. Please be on time.
We want to make sure that all students end the Fall term on a positive note. Please assist your student in being the best he or she can be and to reach their potential.
