International Baccalaureate (IB)
Diploma Program (DP)
and Diploma Courses
The International Baccalaureate (IB) enhances Fredericksburg City Public School’s vision of “Excellence in Education”. Through the IB framework, we develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for all students to be productive members of our community and contribute to the economy.
The International Baccalaurate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP) is designed for juniors and seniors and seeks to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who floruish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. (www.ibo.org)
The IB Diploma Program is recognized and respected by the world’s leading universities, and evidence suggests that higher rates of DP students go on to university and higher education study than non-IB students. (ibo.org)
At FCPS schools and James Monroe High School, we want to offer all of our students as many opportunities for success as possible. For those students seeking rigorous preparation and qualification for university and higher education after high school, FCPS and JMHS offer both the AP and IB courses and programs. Starting in the 2017-18 school years, students can select AP and IB courses (called course classes in IB) of their choice, or opt to enroll in the full IB Diploma Program.Currently, for the 2017-18 school years, the first cohort of students selected for the DP are working through year two of the program and completing their requirements for the IB Diploma. Our second ever cohort is beginning year one. In addition, we have some students that elected to take one IB class as a course class.
