Fredericksburg City Public Schools "Excellence in Education"

On Monday August 2, 2010, the City of Fredericksburg launched a citizen’s alert system called Fredericksburg Alert. The notification system will provide warnings to subscribers outlining various information ranging from emergency weather, traffic, and crime alerts to informational messages from City departments and the school system.

The Fredericksburg Alert system is free to subscribers, and allows the user to receive text messages on their mobile devices, pagers, and multiple email accounts. The system will continue to grow as it is updated and improved.

Area residents can sign up for the service at, and the City of Fredericksburg’s web site will also contain a link to this site.

The alert system was secured through a grant from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). The provider of the system is Roam Secure, a Virginia-based company which specializes in notification systems.

Various types of notifications will be available from Fredericksburg Alert including:

  • Severe Weather watches and warnings
  • Amber Alerts
  • Traffic notifications
  • Crime alerts
  • School closings
  • Public Works information
  • Fred Transit schedule changes
  • Parks and Recreation notifications
