OBJECTIVES: Students enhance word processing and communication skills as they develop competencies needed by business owners, executives and administrative support professionals. Students study human relations/interpersonal skills and office procedures such as information processing, telecommunications, electronic records management, and financial records management
DESCRIPTION: Units of instruction will include several of the following:
1. Speed Building/Timed Writings
2. Business Letters, Memos, and Reports (MSWord 2010)
3. Preparation of Envelopes thru Computer/State Abbreviations
4. Telephone Systems and Procedures
5. Mail and Telecommunication Systems/Postal Procedures
6. Records Management/Filing
7. Office Machines: FAX, copier, etc.
8. Human Relations/Interpersonal Skills
9. Calculating Machines/Business Forms
10. Checking Accounts/Payroll Records
11. Time Management and Reminder Systems (MSOutlook 2010)
12. Business Meetings and Travel Arrangements
13. Soft Skills for Digital Workplace: Written/Verbal Communication, Problem Solving & Decision Making, Professionalism, Teamwork and Team Building
14. Business Etiquette
15. Career Exploration/Resumes/Letter of Application/Interviews
16. Preparation for Workplace Readiness Skills industry certification
17. Extras: Punctuation, Spelling, Word Usage
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Textbook: The Office: Procedures and Technology, 4th edition, copyright 2003
Students must provide a notebook/folder with pockets, notebook paper,
and pen/pencils.
