HELLO…. we have just finished up our 9 weeks test for Q2 and are busy going inot the next Q3.

This Quarter in Science we will be learning about energy transformations, environmental issues and concerns.  We will be working on several projects.

In Math we will be learning about measurement, polygons, and circumference. Your child should be brining home math homework at least twice a week.  Please check their agenda daily.

In English we will continue to work on different types of texts reading of ficition and non-ficiton material.  Please have your child read at least 20 mins a night.  We have started a new homework reading log.  This will be coming home on Monday’s and needs to be completed and turned in every Friday.  Students will be learning about casue and effect, fact and opinion, analogies and the use of reference materials.  They will have homework at least twice a week along with thier reading log. Please check their agaendas.

In History we are learning about the Roaring 20′s and the people that influnced the 20′s with cultural and art.  Look for a project that they will be working on about a famous individual during the 20′s.  We will then go into WWII and the great depression.  We will be watching several movies….permission slips to watch these movies will be coming home.

Again…please work with your child on homework and continue to have them read to increase fluency and comprehension skills.

This Quarter we will be learning alot.   In Science we will be starting our unit in Matter.  Students will be learning about the 4 types of matter, parts of an  atom including, protons, netrons, electrons, and nuclues  The students will learn about the 3 different shells that at atom contains.  We also learn about compounds, elements, and the periodic table.  2 labs are scheduled for this unit.  I will make sure to send a note home before lab, as they can get “messy”.

In Math we will be learning about exponets, square roots, perfect squares and, geometric patterns.  Please have studnet’s continue to practice multplication tables at home.  They will be reciving homework as part of remediation on strands that were missed on the 9 weeks test.  Look for mean, median, mode, and range practice, as well as coordinate plane and word problem practice.

In English we will continue to learn about reading using context clues, with fiction and non-fiction passages.  We will also incoporate vocab weekly.  We will start our unit on verb tenses and subject/verb agreement, as well as start our unit on figurative language.  Please read to your child or have them read for at least 20 mins a night.  This will improve their reading skills and fluency.

In History we will cover Unit 7 Progressives and watch a movie called Ironed Jaws Angels, which is about the Women’s Sufferage Movement.  We will betaking a test on Unit 7 Dec the 7th on Unit 7.  We will then start Unit 8 the Spanish American War.  This should take us to Christmas Break which starts on Dec 20th.

In Science we will be learning about the Scientific Method.  We will learn different types of instruments used to measure; including triple beam balance, graduated cylinder, mass ,gram, and liter.   We will also learn about Hypothesis, research, experiment, data collection, conclusion, and observation.

In Math we wil be learning about basic operations, intergers, absolute value, and mean median and mode.  Please review multiplication with your students! 

In English we will be learning different types of Genres, 6th grade Vocabulary, and learning about context clues and how to find them in a passage or text.  Please have your child read at least 20 minutes a night

In History we will be learning the 50 states, regions and cities that impacted the U.S.  We will also learn about Reconstruction and the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments.

Q1 Week 8

This week we will prepearing for our 9 weeks test. We have our reading 9 weeks test on Thursday the 25th. Please have your students read each night for at least 20 minutes and ask them questions about what they have read to increase comprehension. We will also be taking our Science 9 weeks test on Friday the 26th. We will start working on our study guide tomorrow. Please look for this in your students homework folder and review with them Wednseday and Thursday night before the test.

Q1 Week 9

This week we will be finishing up our 9 weeks testing.  On Monday we have our Math 9 weeks test.  Students should have brought home a Math study guide to review.   Tuesday we have our History 9 weeks test.  Astudy guide will be sent home on Monday.  Please review the study guide with your child.  Thursday we will be taking our 9weeks test in writing.   In Science this week we will be reviewing phases of the moon, seasons, and tides.  In History after 9 weeks testing we will be watching “Color Me Dark”  This movie will rap up our unit on Jim Crow Laws and Racial Segregation.  In English we will finish our wrting prompt on “Spooky Stories”.  We will edit and complete our final draft bythe end of the week.  In Math we will be starting our unit on fractions.  We will begin with adding and subtracting fractions.  Please make sure your child is reading each night to increase their comprehension and fluency!      Ask questions about what they are reading as well.
